Iowa State University Extension and Outreach of Kossuth County is partnering with Iowa State Bank to offer a webinar, “Online Financial Safety”, on Thursday, April 9, 2020. The webinar will be hosted via WebEx, and will begin at 12:00 noon.
The webinar will help participants to better protect their finances from fraud, by teaching how to instill good security practices for one’s home and financial life. “American’s have lost billions of dollars in recent years due to cyber crimes. Now, cyber criminals are using the COVID-19 pandemic as leverage in their crimes. We want to help educate people on how to make sure their personal and financial information is safe when they use services online,” says Meredith Nelson, Program Coordinator with ISU Extension and Outreach of Kossuth County.
Doug Jacobson, Director of the Iowa State University Information Assurance Center, will be speaking during the webinar. Jacobson will speak on good security practices for home and financial life.The ISU Information Assurance Center is designated as a charter Center of Excellence in Information Assurance by the National Security Agency, and provides computer and network security education to post-secondary students and faculty at ISU, as well as the general public. Also speaking during the webinar will be a panel of customer advocates and information security specialists from Iowa State Bank.They will speak on what banks do to protect customers from fraud, and how customers can protect themselves from fraud.
The webinar is free of charge and is open to the public. Participants can log-on by computer, smart phone, or by calling in.
