For some people, sports are all about passion, teamwork, and athleticism. For Levi Trauger, they’re also about the numbers—the data‑driven decisions, measurable progress, and steady calculations that help keep the Algona Family YMCA moving forward. Whether in the boardroom or on the sidelines, Levi’s analytical mindset plays a key role in both the organization’s strategy and its youth sports programs.

A banker by profession, Levi is no stranger to math. But his connection to numbers extends well beyond his day job. At Iowa State Bank, where he is now in his 14th year, Levi analyzes financial details daily. At the YMCA, he applies those same skills to help strengthen one of our community’s strongest assets.

His journey with the Y began in a simple way: someone asked. “I was at a community event when I was approached about serving on the YMCA Board of Directors,” Levi recalled. “My family has benefited from the Y’s programs over the years, so it felt like a good way to give back.”
Today, Levi serves on the YMCA Board of Directors and participates in several committees, each meeting monthly to support the Y’s mission. His financial experience allows him to approach challenges with attention to detail and a focus on long‑term success.  “Taking what I’ve learned in my career and applying it toward the success of a community asset—that’s what I enjoy most,” he said.
The Y’s operational success depends heavily on strong numbers—budgets, fundraising goals, staffing levels, and member participation. As a board member, Levi helps interpret these figures to ensure the Y can continue serving families, just as it serves his own. As a youth sports coach, he also sees firsthand the difference the Y makes in the lives of kids, families, and the broader community.

Levi emphasized the YMCA’s trusted partnerships as well, including the City of Algona, which collaborates on youth sports, and Algona Community Schools, which provides transportation for daycare and school‑age children.

Outside the YMCA, Levi’s commitment to service continues. He volunteers with numerous organizations, including the Algona Area Economic Development Committee, the Retail Revolving Loan Fund, the Corn Belt Power RLF Loan Review, the Algona Advantage Committee, the Kossuth County Historical Society, Cub Scouts, and various church activities.

His message to others is simple and powerful: step forward. “If you want to make a change, put yourself in a position to make the change,” Levi said. “Great organizations are always looking for people to volunteer, join a committee, or join a board—go do it!”

It’s advice rooted in experience—and in math terms, Levi knows that adding even one new volunteer can shift the entire equation.

As the YMCA prepares to host its annual WingDing fundraiser, you’ll find Levi present at this annual event. Those interested in the YMCA’s programs, volunteer opportunities, or youth sports can stop by the Algona Family YMCA, 2101 E McGregor St., Algona, IA 50511, or call 515‑295‑7701.
