You’ve seen it before – a video or photo that looks too unbelievable to be real, only to find out it was created by artificial intelligence (AI). It’s easy to be fooled. That’s why fraudsters are creating content designed to deceive consumers. Take a few moments to familiarize yourself with ways that AI could be trying to trick you:
  • If it sounds too good to be true – Remember, AI can make a scam sound like it came from someone you know and trust. It could seem to be a family member calling with an urgent need for money. Slow down. Hang up. Call the person at a number you know and trust.
  • If it looks too good to be true – AI-generated deepfake videos can mimic someone’s face or mannerisms. Watch for movements in the video that appear unnatural or sound that doesn’t match the person’s lip movements. If you have doubts, verify before you trust what you see in a video.
  • No one is perfect – AI is known to create a perfect email that reflects the branding and tone of communications from a company. These requests may ask for an urgent response, a request for sensitive information or may appear slightly “off” in their visual appearance. Always verify requests at a number you know and trust.
Remember, you are in control of your personal financial information. Verify information you receive before you click or respond. Use your own watchful eye.
