She became a Foundation volunteer the way many people do – someone asked. A strong believer in education, she saw the Foundation as a natural fit and an opportunity to give back to the school she graduated from while helping enhance local schools.
Liz has served on the Algona Community School Foundation board of directors since 1997, including 25 years as president. Today, she continues as vice president, helping guide efforts for the group that works to enhance learning district-wide, support professional development for faculty and provide scholarship support for current and past graduates.
What she enjoys most is seeing the connections between donors, students and educators. As the vice president of marketing at Iowa State Bank, Liz is reminded that high-quality schools are a key driver of economic development helping employers attract and retain employees, creating a strong business climate and a high-quality life for families.
Behind every grant and scholarship is a network of relationships, like her work at Iowa State Bank. The Foundation collaborates with educators, administrators, donors, students, financial professionals, attorneys and fellow volunteers. Liz remarked that the connections are one of the most rewarding parts of the role. She’s also grateful to be part of a community with many organizations dedicated to enriching education, especially through scholarship support.
