Criminals never take a vacation. When planning a vacation, pack these cybersecurity tips for safe travels:

  1. Keep all of your devices up-to-date, including anti-virus protection. If you are traveling for work, know your company’s information security policies related to traveling with various work devices that may contain sensitive information.
  2. Traveling by car? Keep electronics out of sight, and be sure that your vehicle is locked.
  3. Flying? Review travel restrictions and prepare for security checkpoints by noting how many devices you have so that you don’t leave anything behind.
  4. Be alert at rest stops, hotels, airports. Beware of shoulder-surfers, card skimmers and petty thieves. Do not let a stranger watch your belongings.
  5. Have a plan before you depart in case your items become lost or stolen. Take advantage of debit card controls that may be available from your bank via mobile banking apps.
